When the sun reaches mid-day over Antelope Canyon, shades of orange fill the canyon walls. This image is looking up toward the sunlight. I love the rock shapes caused by flash floods rushing through the canyons. These turbulent waters create life-threatening conditions for hikers within the canyon walls. While these canyons are a sacred part of American Navajo Indian culture, this cave was also used for a setting in the Planet of the Apes series. Tech note: Shot on 35mm film, deep blacks and colors are produced on Fuji Velvia film. Page, Arizona

After a day at the beach, legend has it the Brown Pelicans gather to watch sunset. The locals (or imported snowbirds) do it too before heading to 5th Avenue for dinner. Of course I did not have my "good" camera but instead used a point and shoot (you'll find "Powershot Elph" in the info/metadata -haha). As I walked the beach I passed several photographers working it like I normally would (with with tripods, ND graduated filters and such). It felt good to just hold a camera in my palm, take 5-6 shots, and enjoy a sunset before heading to 5th street. This image proves two old adages: 1. The best camera is the one you have in your hand. 2. Don't leave home without it... :-)
