Colosseum Gates
76 gates line the lower level of the Colosseum. I was curious about the holes... Our guide pointed out that as cathedrals and other structures were being built, it became common practice to pillage construction materials (such as metals and decor) from the Colosseum. It was faster to dismantle and justify for more noble causes.
